Hawser is an advertising and digital marketing agency born in Tenerife. We are a small team: the person who looks after you is the person who does the work, and every decision is made with an eye on what it costs you to win a customer and what that customer brings in.

The founder
Javi Merino
Founder and director of Hawser · Marketing consultant and senior webmaster
Javi started out building websites for his own projects. He soon found that he enjoyed the process, and that many websites belonging to businesses around him did not live up to what they were selling. That is how Hawser was born: an agency that stands out for its quality and its attention to detail.
He has more than 10 years of experience as a senior webmaster specialising in WordPress and WooCommerce (servers, migrations, security and performance), and he has trained in SEO, SEM, ASO, graphic design and email marketing. That all-round view of digital marketing lets him lead every project from start to finish.
He is also qualified in Administration and Finance. That is why he sees marketing as an investment: before talking about clicks or followers, he talks about how much it costs to win a customer, how much that customer brings in and when the investment pays for itself.

He spotted a bug in Holded’s invoicing platform that marked unpaid invoices as paid. He reported it without asking for anything in return, and Holded interviewed him on its blog.

From the office to video calls
Until the pandemic we met our clients in a physical office. In 2020 we moved to working by video call, the team became smaller, and we have kept that approach ever since.

For years we had a physical office where we met our clients. With the pandemic, in 2020, we started working by video call and the team became smaller. We have kept that approach ever since: it lets us look after a client in La Laguna just as closely as one in Chile.

Questions about how we work
Can we work with you in English?
Yes. Javi and Yoselin both speak English, so meetings, emails, reports and the content we create for you can all be in English.
Can I visit you at your office?
We no longer receive visitors in person. We had a physical office until the pandemic, but in 2020 we moved to working by video call and have kept that approach ever since. It means we can see you sooner, at the time that suits you best, wherever you are.
Can you come to my company?
Yes, from time to time. If a project requires it, we can travel to our clients’ offices for a specific meeting.
Who will handle my project?
Javi Merino, founder of Hawser, defines the strategy and oversees every project. Yoselin, account executive and social media manager, is your day-to-day contact. When a job needs a specialist, we coordinate it ourselves with trusted collaborators.
Do you work with businesses outside the Canary Islands?
Yes. We have clients in the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, the USA, Chile, Mexico, Iceland. Because we work by video call, distance is not a problem.
